Holocaust Day January 27th

"Holocaust Day Must Speak for All Victims" I know i am not a victim of the terrible atrocities carried out on the Jews in Auschwitz between 1941-45. Nor do i want to underestimate or take away any importance of the worlds recognition of the suffering and the horrible things that happened to those innocent people.

Tony Blair sees Holocaust Day as a time to "Let Britons reflect upon evil in the world." I don't need a specially allocated day to remember the evil in the world, my memory relives evil happenings every day of my life.

All Holocaust Day has done to me is reinforce a date i would rather forget, wipe from my memory. The day i was brutaly raped by a man who convinced himself he was a German Officer, and i a Jewish woman in a German Prison of War Camp. For me the words he used conjured a picture of how it was, the horrors, the vivid descriptions of Prison Camp Life. The trains, the gas chambers, the cries of the children, the smells of fear and death while he tortured me physically, threatened me and my children with death. Those pictures in my head of what he described will never leave me. They are imprinted so vividly and clearly i can hear the cries, smell the fear. For a while i was there.

Now no matter how hard i try to forget, to move on, there is a day every year to commemerate Holocaust Day. Maybe i would find it easier to deal with if it was a different time of the year, in June or July possibly.

I was raped January 26th....
