Pain

It came swiftly
fierce and intense
and washed over me
in a wave.
It was supposed to
leave just as quickly
as it came.
I was always told
it was something that
would disappear with time.
But, how can I believe that
now that I am here?
Wasting away in a
ball of despair,
where nothing can
reach me or
touch me inside.
Why can't this pain
just subside?
